'Awaken' - one of our most reviving fragrances in our collection, is the perfect balance of subtle spiciness with layers of citrus notes.
Read on to learn more about the oils we selected for this gorgeous feel-good fragrance.
GINGER | Zingiber officinale
Ginger is one of life's great natural immune boosters. This ancient 'Oil of Empowerment' has been used for over a thousand years for all sorts of remedies due to its' powerful antiseptic properties (Henry VIII even recommended it as a remedy for the plague), ginger is particularly beneficial to ward off the common cold, coughs and flu. It's also helpful during pregnancy to relieve morning sickness and those who suffer from travel sickness or dizziness.
Ginger is also known to be very effective as an appetite suppressant, so very handy at this time of year when many of us are trying to eat less after too many mince pies and Christmas turkey....
When you first smell natural ginger essential oil it's not quite the same as smelling a jar of stem ginger you can buy at your local deli. Steam distilled from the dried roots, it has a more pungent scent so only a little is needed to bring out its' best qualities when blending it with other essential oils.
With its' sharp and spicy notes. by including a little ginger essential oil in our 'Awaken' blend adds just the right amount of warmth and depth. This ancient oil will also help to improve mental clarity and memory.
EUCALYPTUS | Eucalyptus globulus
Although mainly used for medicinal purposes, eucalyptus is used sparingly in perfumery. Extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and young twigs. it has a faint woody undertone with a strong medicinal aroma which is why only very small amounts are necessary to enhance a blend.
Widely known for its' excellent antiseptic and antibiotic properties, in aromatherapy, it is a very useful oil to promote mental clarity, alertness with a refreshing, reviving and energising scent.
Eucalyptus is a fairly easy shrub to grow in your garden and the foliage is great to use at Christmas for decorating or throughout the year in floral bouquets.
Historically, to improve their health, people who were ill were relocated to areas where the trees grew. In the latter part of the nineteenth century, the oil was regarded as a cure oil.
GRAPEFRUIT | Citrus paradisi
Grapefruit, unlike Ginger and Eucalyptus has not been around for thousands of years. In fact, the earliest record of the grapefruit was in the West Indies in the early eighteenth century. Scientists believe that the tree developed as a mutation from the pomelo fruit.
I've always loved the sunny aroma of a freshly cut grapefruit - with its' juicy, sweet citrus scent and immediate energising effect.
Extracted from the peel, grapefruit's uplifting fragrance is similar to sweet orange and is packed full of therapeutic benefits which is why it is one of our all time favourites. Its' refreshing and reviving aroma helps reduce stress, improves mental clarity and awareness, sharpens the senses and increases motivation. Very useful for those of us with long lists of New Year resolutions!
MAY CHANG | Litsea cubeba
May Chang is an evergreen shrub mainly produced in China. The essential oil is obtained from the berried fruit. This little known shrub offers very similar properties to lemongrass but with a slightly more sweet fragrance.
Although very much under the radar, you may be surprised to find this lemony scented oil in many perfumed products .
It's an excellent memory booster, alleviates stress and anxiety and - like ginger, grapefruit and eucalyptus, helps to improve mental clarity and alterness.
